Presenting your online self

Maximise your marketability!

Presenting Your Online Self

There is a lot of data about all of us available on the internet, particularly from our social media footprint. Digital media has taken over and given recruiters a different insight when looking at a person’s application. Many recruiters and potential employers will check your online profile, so you need to make sure you are social media ready!

Starting Point

Google yourself, see what comes up. Decide what you do and don’t like. Are you being presented online in the way you wish to be? Think from a potential employer’s point of view.

Protect Yourself

Nearly all social media sites have privacy settings; check all of yours to ensure you have the levels you are comfortable with. This can change with varying privacy policies and needs to be kept up to date, ensuring potential employers see what you want them to.

Delete the Past

If it's not relevant to you anymore get it removed. When employers are searching for you online, you want them to see the most important examples. Most sites have the ability for you to delete accounts or request data is deleted.

Align your LinkedIn and Other Profiles

Look at your LinkedIn profile – does it mirror your CV and that represents who you are. Align to any business social media profiles you own. Keep everything up to date. Get regular testimonials from line managers, peers and your team.

There's no need to hide who you are, showing your personality can be beneficial. However, try and see things from an employer’s perspective. Ensure you fully utilise a very strong tool - your online presence.
