How to Get Motivated in Work
Getting back in the swing of things!
We’ve all been there, we’ve had a few days off of work, maybe not had to set an alarm and the first day week back seems like the longest. It’s always difficult to get back into the swing of things (or even remember your password!)
Thinking of that...we’ve come up with five things to keep us motivated beginning 2020!
Set Yourself Measurable Goals
Have you heard of S.M.A.R.T Goals?
- Specific
- Measurable
- Attainable
- Realistic
- Timely
Don’t give yourself tasks or goals that are out of your reach. Before beginning something, check it's attainable. Can you do it in your time frame? Is it realistic and something that gives you a sense of progression through time?
Take Charge of Your Own Professional and Personal Development
Is one of your goals wanting to be promoted by the end of the year or progress in your role. Maybe you simply want to excel at what you do now. You are in charge of your own fate.
Start with the small things.
Don’t run in and think you can just start straight away. Give yourself a bit of time or even your first hour to get yourself situated. Check your emails, get the annoying small things done first before beginning the harder jobs.
Break down your tasks
Rather than looking at everything as big tasks, split them down into easy and measurable tasks that when added together mean you’ve achieved. Rather than saying you have to be done by the end of the day, give yourself hourly options. Some people find it easier to start with the smaller tasks and some like to get one big one done straight away. Find out which way works best for you and go for it!
Step out of the Office
Do you take your lunch break at your desk? Are you at a computer for 8 hours a day? Making sure that you take a break and step away completely for periods of time to clear your mind and not look at a screen can have a huge impact on the rest of your working day.
